Ella Uda Ella Falls drops 4 metres through the Colombo District landscape in the Western Province lowlands, where rainforest streams meet the coastal plain. Fed by perennial streams flowing through the surrounding forest, this waterfall maintains its flow throughout the year, though it is most impressive during and after the rainy season.

What to Expect

This smaller waterfall is often found along forest trails in the Colombo area. The surrounding vegetation is dense and tropical, with large-leafed plants, ferns, and occasionally wild orchids growing near the spray zone where moisture keeps everything green.

Best Time to Visit

The waterfall is most dramatic during the southwest monsoon season (May to September) when rainfall in the Colombo District is highest and streams carry maximum water volume. Early morning visits offer the best light for photography and cooler temperatures for the walk. The surrounding forest is alive with birdcalls at dawn, including endemic species like the Sri Lanka junglefowl and various barbets.

Getting There

Ella Uda Ella Falls is located in the Colombo District of Western Province. As a lesser-known waterfall, access may require local directions. The nearest town with facilities is in the Colombo area. Bring water and snacks as there are unlikely to be vendors near the falls. Sturdy footwear is recommended as trails can be slippery, especially during the rainy season.
