Rock Monastery of the East
Veheragala Temple combines natural rock formations with constructed Buddhist monuments. The dagoba sits on a raised platform, while surrounding caves and rock shelters contain inscriptions and traces of monastic habitation. Stone pillars mark the locations of ancient buildings that once served the monastic community.
