Eastern Viewpoint

Makaraya's rocky outcrops rise above the flat eastern terrain, providing a natural elevated viewpoint. The site is surrounded by typical dry zone vegetation — scrubby forest interspersed with clearings. The birdlife is rewarding for patient observers, with bee-eaters, hornbills, and various raptors commonly seen.

Visiting

A minor site in the Ampara District. No facilities or entrance fee. Best combined with other eastern attractions. A vehicle is needed to reach the area.
